About Me
I am an Assistant Professor of Emerging Media Studies at the College of Communication and affiliated Faculty of Computing and Data Science at Boston University. My research examines how political information, misinformation, and specifically visuals (including AI-generated content) circulate on social media and shape public understanding, using computational and mixed methods. I also love to create computational tools and packages for others to help with social science questions.
For the next two years, through 2028, I will be working on AI images and polarization, funded by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation.
I completed my Ph.D. in Communication at Georgia State University, as a presidential fellow in Transcultural Conflict and Violence Initiative (TCV), M.A. in Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University and B.A. in Near Eastern Studies and Economics at Cornell University. Previously I was a postdoctoral fellow at the Center for Communication and Public Policy at Northwestern University, an Assistant Professor of Disinformation Studies at Clemson University, and one of the core faculty of John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s funded Media Forensics Hub.
Publications
My work focuses on political communication and computational social science. I build and apply computational methods, including topic modeling, visual analysis, and large language models, to study how political information, misinformation, and imagery circulate and shape public understanding, as well as the science of science itself.
